
Devil’s Food Cake Recipe
A rich, tasty chocolate cake.
Ingredients
- 2/3 cup Crisco® All-Vegetable Shortening
- 2/3 cup sugar
- 1 tsp Clabber Girl® Baking Soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp Spice Islands® Pure Vanilla Extract
- 2/3 cup Grandma’s® Original Molasses
- 3 squares bitter chocolate
- 2 eggs
- 3/4 cup sour milk
- 1 1/2 cup enriched flour (sifted)
Directions
- Heat oven to 375F. Mix first five ingredients.
- Stir in molasses.
- Melt chocolate over hot water; add shortening-sugar mixture.
- Beat in eggs. Add sour milk alternately with flour (about 1/3 of each at a time).
- Bake 25 minutes or until done in 2 well-greased, lightly floured, round 8-inch layer cake pans.
- Cool; frost as desired.
