Elephant Rescue

Since 2008, Grandma’s® Molasses has been a proud sponsor of The Elephant Sanctuary in Hohenwald, Tennessee. It’s important to give back, and Grandma’s® Molasses donates a year’s supply of molasses annually.

Molasses is universally loved by elephants. Grandma’s Molasses is served as a way to entice the elephants to take their dietary supplements and medicine by concealing the medicinal taste with its flavorful sweetness. Elephants can’t get enough of the great taste, so it makes staying healthy an enjoyable experience.

The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee is the nation’s largest natural habitat refuge developed specifically to meet the needs of captive elephants retired from zoos and circuses. It is a non-profit organization, licensed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, accredited by the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries, and certified by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.

Utilizing more than 2,700 acres, The Elephant Sanctuary provides protected, natural habitat environments for Asian and African elephants, many of whom suffer long-term health and behavioral issues common to aging captive elephants.

Elephants are incredibly intelligent animals with an intricate social structure similar to humans, so this kind of peaceful environment is especially significant in their recovery. Grandma’s Molasses is honored to be partnered with The Elephant Sanctuary in such a worthy endeavor.
